AKM Nobeoka Plant fire update

Further to the announcement made on October 21, 2020, the fire in Fab 2 (Nobeoka Plant) was extinguished on October 24. On-site inspection by the police and fire department will be conducted after confirming the structural safety of the building. There is no clear outlook on the recovery plan and when the production will resume. Thus, we urgently request customer to consider replacement to alternative parts for AKM affected products.

  • Affected location : Fab2 (Nobeoka Plant)4960, Nakagawara-cho 5-chome, Nobeoka-shi, Miyazaki
  • Date and time of occurrence : 16:45 local time, Tuesday, October 20
  • Fire Extinguishment: : 12:25 local time, Saturday, October 24,

 Recovery plan and request

  •  Extent of the physical damage is not yet determined. We will immediately proceed to a full assessment of the situation as soon as the restriction is lifted aiming at its quickest recovery.
  • Resumption of shipment will be informed as soon as we confirm the condition of the finished goods and WIP (work in progress).
  • High priority is given to setting up alternative production sites for both the front-end (Wafer fabrication) and back-end (Testing) process. However, since the transfer of front-end process requires longer period of time, we request customer to consider the replacement to alternative parts for AKM affected products.

Note
Please be noted that AKM products manufactured and tested in Fab1, Fab3 and silicon foundry are not affected by this fire incident.
